Wine-making is easy, right?
I remember as kid growing up in Houston, seeing a plastic wine barrel sitting on top of the fridge in the kitchen. My Dad was trying his hand at wine-making. It must have sat up there for at least a year. I don’t remember how it turned out and I never saw another one go up there after that one was removed, so I am going to say it didn’t go well. As you can see, I come from a family of winemakers.
Little did I know that one day I would find myself sitting at a winery in the Santa Clara mountains, sipping on some estate Merlot, wondering why I have never gone to wineries before. Where have these places been before? I have known the winery owner for a few years, but didn’t know he owned a winery and was a very good winemaker.
From that visit in 2011 until now has been an adventure. Lucky for me, he is very patient and a great mentor. He has helped me when I graduated myself from wine kits to grapes, from getting home wine making equipment to commercial wine-making equipment.
Now that my beautiful wife and I have decided to join the other fine wine-makers in the Texas Hill Country, we hope you will come see what we have done so far. Maybe, one of you will sit on our porch, look out over the horizon and wonder … wine-making is easy, right?
